Six Women, Four Months: the Fatherland Weeps
She lived outside hijab,
like a German, no
headscarf but Western
freedom, leading a life electric --
trade school and boyfriends.
Her proper Turkish brothers
who wanted only her eyes,
took them. Her head,
then chest targets
for a rage of gunfire. She joins
five Turkish sisters: two stabbed,
one shot; one strangled; one drowned.
For the honor.
Hatin Surucu: murdered by her three brothers, February 7, 2005
